Aldwick police warn of court action over illegal parking

Motorists have been warned they could face court for repeatedly breaking parking laws in Aldwick.

The action has been pledged by police community support officer Nick Baker.

He said he and other officers had tackled vehicle owners along Avisford Terrace in the Rose Green shopping area, Aldwick Road and Silverston Avenue.

"We have increased patrols to specifically target the above roads," he stated.

"Offences have been dealt with by fixed penalty notices and consideration will be given to repeat offenders being reported to court for the committed offences.

"Additional support will be given by the neighbouring marine police community support officer. This will allow a greater coverage of enforcement. The increased enforcement has seen a reduction in parking offences. However, patrols will need to continue to reduce offences further."

Anger at the widespread disobedience of parking laws was evident at a public meeting PCSO Baker and his colleague, PSCO Tracey Ford, organised in Aldwick late last month.

It formed the top two priorities which arose from the views of some 30 residents who turned up.

The other aspect of parking which PCSO Baker vowed to act upon was the increasing use of the pavements around the Nyetimber Lane junction with St Anthony's Walk for parking.

He said: "I have requested that West Sussex County Council consider putting in bollards which would prevent vehicles from driving on to pavements."
