Aldwick toilets to become cafe

PLANS to transform former public toilets in Aldwick into a traditional tearoom have been altered.

Arun District Council has re-submitted a planning application to convert the currently closed building in Marine Park Gardens due to amendments in the site’s boundary plan.

Changes to the outside of the existing building will be minimal, the rendered exterior will stay cream and the pitched roof will stay as clay tiles.

But a new entrance door and window glazing will be added.

The immediate landscaping around the site will opened up to deter anti-social behaviour and to allow for outside seating.

But the council has pledged it will still reflect the Art Nouveau design of the gardens.

The council envisages the work being carried out with a local organisation and the tearooms being run by a charity.
