All aboard for sailing succeess

SAVVY sailors from Arun Youth Aqua Centre have bought themselves a new boat with money awarded by a youth fund.

The five members of the centre's Go4It team successfully applied for 4,064 from West Sussex County Council's Youth Opportunities Fund to buy the Feva dinghy.

It will be put to work at the centre, in Hendon Avenue, along with a second dinghy bought by the club, for members to use to practice training for races.

The five young people, Heidi Clevett, James Millett, Paul Harris, Cheryl Skinner and Laura Simons formed the Go4It team to put together their bid to the fund.

They also applied for cash to pay for four of them '” Heidi, James, Paul and Cheryl '” to successfully take their Royal Yachting Association Instructors' awards.

The team plan to present an end of project report to the county council by the end of the season using photographs and a DVD to show how their objectives have been successfully met.

Due to the recent bad weather the dinghy has only managed a couple of outings since it arrived but has already proved easy to handle and an asset to the centre.

The centre's management committee said they were "extremely proud" of the team's achievements.
