All Saint's Christian Aid Week coffee morning

ALL SAINT'S at Sidley was one of many church's in the area supporting Christian Aid Week, with a coffee morning held on Saturday.

Shoppers, who ventured out in the wet weather, found plenty on offer with stalls selling bric a brac, videos, cards, a tombola, grand raffle, and homemade cakes; teas and coffees were served.

There was also the ever popular book stall, ably manned by church volunteer Margaret Solo.

Many people regularly return to her stall at each event and, with quality paperback books available at only 20p it's easy to see why.

She said: "People buy the books from me, read them and return them to be sold again, so they are constantly being recycled."

She also emphasised the importance of Christian Aid Week saying: "Every penny we raise goes to Christian Aid - it really does go to the right people."

Parish Priest Father Trevor Buxton said of Christian Aid Week: "It's good to find churches up and down the country working together, it is a wonderful charity that cares for all society at home and - in particular with the recent earthquake and cyclone tragedys - abroad."
