All the fun of Littlehampton carnival

MUSIC, laughter and more than a little fun will take overLittlehampton tomorrow (Saturday, July 10) for the biggest event of the summer.

The town's legendary carnival will take to the streets in the evening, following an actionpacked day of fun and frolics in and around the town centre.

President of the carnival association, Freda Hughes, said the committee was working hard on putting the finishing touches to the event, to include a massive 40-plus entry procession.

"It has become extremely difficult to organise the event, with all the rules and regulations we have to adhere to, but our team of volunteers have battled on regardless, raising funds so that we can put on a special event for all the local people and tourists.

"Please, do come along and support us by being generous to collectors, as all money raised is donated to local youth groups."

The day will kick off at 10am in the town centre, where carnival mascot Hampton the Hedgehog will be joined by Littlehampton mayor Joyce Bowyer, to officially open the event, before live music and dancing take over in the form of performances from the Silk Road Belly Dancers and the City of Coventry Corps of Drums, to name but a few.

There will also be a children's fancy dress competition at 11.30am.

The carnival procession will line up at St Winefride's Road

from 4.30pm, ready for the judging of flats and walking

groups at 5pm, and will move off at 6pm.

From there, it will travel along Church Street, into Beach Road, then South Terrace, Pier Road and Surrey Street, followed by Franciscan Way,

into East Street, then along Horsham Road and Southfields Road, arriving at Southfields Recreation Ground, where all the fun of Cole's Funfair will be waiting, for about 7.45pm.

Riding in pride of place will be this year's royalty, carnival queen Isabella Camburn, and her princesses Sophia Hamilton and

Hazel Hayward-Barnes.
