Amazing journey for fundraiser Jane

BEXHILL solicitor Jane Strickland has recently returned from a trek in Nepal to raise funds for Dogs for the Disabled.

She said: “There were 29 of us in the group plus our Sherpas and porters, and we trekked for a total of 26 miles in the stunning Annapurna region of Nepal over six days.

“We started the trek at Nayapool, and followed the sub-tropical Modi Khola river valley to Birethanti through terraced rice paddies to Syauli where we stayed overnight in a lodge with superb views of the great peaks of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare.

“We then trekked uphill to the largest village of the area Ghandruk, renouned for the number of its menfolk who have served in the British Ghurka regiments. On days three and four we trekked uphill again through a rhododrendron forest to Tadapani and then on to Ghorepani (2,780m).

“The highlight of our trip was on day five when we got up at 4.30am and trekked up Poon Hill at 3,210m to watch the sunrise which was absolutely beautiful. After that it was trekking downhill all the way back to Nayapool, and then by coach to Pokhara.

“The trek was very tough and challenging, but everyone made it, and it was an amazing journey. The Nepalese people are extremely poor but are very friendly and always smiling.

“I have personally raised almost £3,400 for Dogs for the Disabled, and even though I have completed the trek there is still time to make a donation to www.justgiving.com/janestrickland2.”

This was Jane’s second trek as in September 2009 she followed the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu when she raised a further £3,500 for the charity.
