Amble for Arthritis: walkers wanted

PEOPLE living in and around Bexhill are being asked to show support for next month's Arthritis Care week - May 9 to May 15 - by taking part in a sponsored walk along the town's seafront on Saturday, May 14.

The event is part of Arthritis Care’s Amble for Arthritis campaign to help promote walking as a way to ease the pain of the country’s biggest single cause of physical disability, and to help raise much-needed funds.

Suzanne Salmon, the charity’s fundraising manager for South England, is based in Bexhill and said: “Walking helps maintain muscle tone and joint stability, increases bone density and reduces joint stiffness.

“It also controls weight, which reduces the strain on vulnerable joints, and so the Amble will be a perfect way for people with arthritis to enjoy a day out and help to manage their symptoms.”

The walk will start from West Parade on Bexhill seafront (near to the public toilets across from Richmond Road) at 11am and finish at The Sackville/Mermaid, De La Warr Parade, where coffee and cake has been laid on for all who take part.

Suzanne said: “It is planned to be a fun event in which people with arthritis and their friends and family can all get involved.”

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Arthritis Care South England on 0844 888 2111 or e-mail: [email protected] to register their details.
