Anger as huge rise on cards for parking

FURIOUS residents have launched a campaign to stop Mid Sussex District Council going ahead with proposed massive increases to parking charges.

The council says the new proposals, taken against a background of economic turmoil, are part of the council's pledge to continue the existing range of services while maintaining a low council tax.

Cllr Garry Wall, cabinet member commented "Car parking charges have not risen since 2003.

"Finding the right balance to support businesses and residents has been the challenge and I have listened to all the comments and suggestions made. I believe we now have a pricing structure that can be agreed in March."

But campaigners say the increases will mean that some people will stay away from East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill.
