Anglers plan "fishathon"

FISHERMAN Andy Timms took the honours at the Shoreham Angling Squad's inaugural contest.

He won the group's first competition after catching a footlong whiting in appalling weather conditions, on Sunday.

Fifteen members of the group turned out in a force-six winds,

and the competition was brought to a halt at noon after

waves came crashing over Shoreham Harbour's west arm.

Club treasurer Grahame Carter said: "I think, given the

conditions, it was a good showing by our members.

"We hope for fairer weather next time, more especially for

our charity event.

of the Teenage Cancer Trust, on January 19, beginning at 6pm.

"We hope to raise a lot of money for this worthwhile charity."

The squad hopes to include more competitions in the future.

The plan is to promote a cleaner environment on Shoreham Harbour's west arm, including specialist days for disabled anglers and juniors.
