ANGLING: Duo take Hart with big tench

BIG tench are being taken from a number of different waters in the area with a fish of 7lb 9oz having been hooked by Dave Payne of Eastbourne who fished a gravel pit near Rye with a bunch of maggots.

Previously, Dave, with Will Hart of Seaford, landed tench to 8lb 10oz from the same water and Will caught a bream of 11lb 12oz.

At Ardingly Reservoir it was Wesley Horton the bailiff who fished with sweetcorn who in two sessions at Bird Hide Bay caught 25 tench with a best of 7lb 6oz. Bream to 5lb and plenty of roach to 1lb including bags to 50lb have been caught.

The Wallers Haven is still producing plenty of tench in the 3lb to 4lb range along with the odd better fish to 5lb. Margin fishing has been the best place to fish with sweetcorn and bread flake accounting many of the fish.

Another tench water is the Pevensey Haven where some anglers have managed to fish to 4lb up in the water while fishing with maggots and caster.

There were some good fish taken from Rye Nook which included roach to 2lb 4oz, tench to 4lb and bream to 5lb. Carp were taken from the Ocean Lake to 21lb 4oz with Barry Connelly landing the biggest. Other anglers caught as many as five fish in a session.

Moorhen Lake produced carp to 18lb and anglers were catching up to four fish during a days fishing, while on Little Nook small roach, rudd and the odd perch were caught on maggots. Some carp were taken on sweet flavoured boilies and on the surface close to the trees.

A tench of 6lb 9oz was caught from the Stumps Lake at Frant Lakes and crucians to 3lb came from Lake 6, but the biggest carp of 22lb 8oz was caught from Snags Lake.

Wayne Adams fished Saunder Gravel Pits to catch a common carp of 20lb 4oz and Bernie Adams landed three carp weighing 17lb 8oz, 14lb and 11lb. Surprisingly most of the tench were smaller than expected, weighing 2lb to 3lb.

Southdown Angling Association fished the second round of the March Shield on the Wallers Haven Middlebridge. 1st Steve Izzard 9lb 10oz, 2nd Roger Izzard 7lb 14oz, 3rd Paul Newman 5lb, Alan Bates 4lb 15oz. They also fished an evening match on the Wallers at Ironbridge. 1st Roger Izzard 5lb 1oz, 2nd Ian Oliver 3lb 14oz 8dr, 3rd Peter Gabbitas 3lb 3oz 8dr.

Clive Vale Angling Club fished on the Rother at Blackwall Bridge. 1st Peter White 14lb 10oz, 2nd Trevor Little 9lb, 3rd Brian Christopher 7lb 15oz, 4th Dave White 7lb 6oz, 5th Ron Tuppin 4lb.
