The Haskins Roundstone Garden Centre, on the A259 at Angmering, is asking Arun District Council for permission to change two of the 19 categories of goods it is allowed to sell.

It wants to halve its 200sq m of floorspace for food and drink and replace a 250sq m arts and craft area with a new cook shop and demonstration area totalling 400 sq m.

In a letter accompanying the planning application, an agent for Haskins states: “The demand for baking and cookery items has grown significantly over the past few years and the idea for a cook shop follows the trend for baking/cooking/grow-your-own and leisure activities.”

The agent adds that the arts and craft space is no longer needed following the opening of the Hobbycraft store in the centre’s grounds. The cookery/baking items are already being sold on the premises, but would be combined in one area. Haskins was prepared to reduce space for food and drink following some concerns.

The full list of the latest Arun plans in the Gazette area (not including tree applications) is:

ANGMERING: modify planning obligation relating to items 1 and 19 on schedule 2 under planning consent A/109/10 to “restrict and limit the sale of goods at the site”, Haskins Garden Centre, Roundstone bypass.
