Angmering woman’s quiz to help release caged bears

ANIMAL lovers are being encouraged to show their concern for bears held captive in Romania, by taking part in a quiz night later this month.

Fiona Franks, from Angmering, who is joining a seven-day sponsored trek through Romania’s Carpathian Mountains for the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in September, is inviting teams to exercise their brain cells at the quiz.

It is being held at the Conservative Hall, Sea Road, East Preston, on Saturday, June 29 at 7pm, with profits going towards the £2,150 Fiona has pledged to raise on the trek for the WSPA’s Big Bear Rescue operation.

The charity is committed to rescuing the last-known illegally-held captive bears in Romania and releasing them into a sanctuary it funds.

“I have never done anything like this before, so I am busy training, with lots of walking, including hills, and trying to fund-raise at the same time,” said Fiona.

The quiz is for teams of up to six, with prizes for the winners. Tickets, price £7.50 per person, including a ploughman’s supper, need to be purchased in advance. Teams are asked to bring their own drinks, and there will also be a raffle. Individuals can join or form other teams.

Tickets are on sale at 5 Knightscroft Drive, Rustington, 30 Clarence Drive, East Preston, or 25 Foxdale Drive, Angmering.
