Ann Widdecombe raises thousands for donkey charity

Writer, TV presenter and former MP Ann Widdecombe has raised thousands of pounds for a Scaynes Hill-based donkey charity.

The politician turned television celebrity appeared on ITV’s All-Star Family Fortunes last Saturday (January 12) with her niece, nephew and their spouses.

Ann beat opera singer Paul Potts and his family to the £10,000 prize which has been split between Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land and another charity.

The Tory animal lover became a household name following her stint on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2010 and is a patron of the Scaynes Hill charity.

Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land was set up in 2000 and has a sanctuary in Israel that is home to 200 unwanted and abused donkeys.

It is said to be the only charity dedicated to caring for working and abandoned donkeys in both Israel and the Palestinian territories.
