Anne's woodland memorial seat

A SEAT has been put up in Highwoods, Peatree Lane, by the Highwoods Preservation Society in memory of founder member and former honorary secretary, Anne Enefer, who died last year.

The site, close to a stream, was chosen by her husband Barry with a view of the bridge and pond. Barry is pictured here with daughters Julie and Carolyne, and son John trying the seat.

Chris Ashford, for the society, said: “Anne was an accomplished artist and we are sure she would have approved the position of the seat as this area affords many visual delights overlooking the stream.

“We feel this is a fitting memorial for someone who worked tirelessly for the Society and whose quiet determination was an inspiration to us all.”

Highwoods, some 87 acres (35 hectares) in extent, is one of the few surviving examples of a traditional coppiced woodland left in East Sussex.
