Anti-burglary initiative for Battle and Rye

During the last three years there has been a rise in crime in the Battle and Rye area, particularly burglaries of homes and businesses, during October, November and December.

Inspector James Scott said: “This year rather than waiting for the crimes and reacting to them we are being proactive to make Rother an even safer place to live.”

Officers are being assigned on a daily basis to respond to suspicious activity calls, carry out patrols in directed areas and complete high visibility foot patrols in the rural villages in Rother.

A series of public meetings in communities, which have experienced a rise in crime, will be held to raise awareness and to ask for their support by reporting anything they see suspicious to police.

Days of action across the district will also be held, which will include carrying out road checks to see who is travelling through the area.

Insp Scott said: “Our message to criminals coming onto Rother is to beware. There are extra police patrols across the district and we will be targeting the road network to stop you.”
