Appeal to help save dog found in Littlehampton

LOVE was not on the cards for this lonely Labrador, who was found abandoned in a Littlehampton car park hours after Valentine’s Day.

The unknown dog was discovered by a passer-by at the Antonia Court car park, in Terminus Road.

The visibly shaken, golden Labrador – who has since been given the name of Monty Hobo – was taken to the Fitzalan House Veterinary Surgery, in Fitzalan Road, Littlehampton.

Staff at the surgery are now appealing for Monty’s owners to come forward and reclaim him.

Marie Davey, head nurse at the veterinary practice, said: “We’re not sure if he has been abandoned or simply got lost, we can’t really be certain. But no-one has yet come forward to pick him up.”

Marie said that, when the dog was brought to them, he was wearing a red harness and did not have a collar. She added that he was not micro-chipped and that he was about 10 years old.

“It’s just heartbreaking to think that someone could, purposely abandon such a lovely dog,” she said. “He has arthritis and does need some medical treatment, but there are plenty of charities out there designed to support owners through this.

“He should be able to live his golden years with a caring owner. For any owner to dump an animal, who clearly needs their love and care, is such a callous and shameful thing to do.”

Monty’s owners are now being urged to contact the practice on 01903 713806. Marie is also asking anyone interested in adopting the dog to contact the same number.
