'˜Appreciate peace time' Hove 103-year-old tells youngsters

Barford Court resident Kathleen Dilley celebrates her 103rd

A resident at a care home in Hove has celebrated her 103rd birthday with a poignant message to younger generations to '˜appreciate peace time'.

Her message comes a week before Armistice Day, which this year marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Great, great grandmother Kathleen Dilley, who has lived through two world wars, celebrated her birthday at RMBI Home Barford Court in Hove last week.

Kathleen was born in 1915, just after the start of the First World War. Kathleen enjoyed a career in finance and eventually met her husband, got married and had two children.

After the Second World War, Kathleen volunteered as a patient transport ambulance driver for the elderly. She did this from the age of 30 until she was 75.

When asked if she has any life lessons or advice to share with young people, Kathleen, said: “The possibilities of what can be achieved during peace time are endless. I would urge younger generations to appreciate peace time.”

Kathleen celebrated her birthday with a special afternoon tea with fellow residents and staff at RMBI Home Barford Court in Hove, enjoying gifts and flowers.

Home Manager, Deidre Johnson said: “Kathleen is a truly remarkable woman and it was a privilege to celebrate her 103rd birthday at our home.”
