Eastbourne's Arndale Centre staff have won accolades for customer service in a national awards scheme.

Centre Administrator Janette Calverley and duty security manager David Parfitt scooped the awards for what judges called their “fantastic customer service”.

Both were presented with ACE (Achieving Customer Excellence) Awards at the British Council of Shopping Centres conference in Brighton.

More than 500 shopping centre professionals from across the UK and Ireland attended the conference and gala dinner.

Janette, who has worked at the Arndale Centre for five years, won a prestigious ACE Superstar Award – the best of the best in customer service.

David, who has been part of the security team for seven years, was awarded an ACE Star Award.

The aim of the awards is to celebrate the best customer service in the retail property industry and each person who is nominated receives at least two independent mystery shop visitors by shopping centre specialists.

Eastbourne Arndale Centre manager Bill Plumridge said, “Congratulations to Janette and David, I am extremely proud of both of them.

“This is great recognition for the work they do and for what we aim to achieve as a team at the Arndale Centre.”

Last month the centre’s security guards were praised for helping to save the life of a shopper who collapsed.

Ambulance staff say their quick thinking and actions were vital after a man collapsed in the toilets on Saturday, February 20.

They ripped a toilet door off, did CPR on the man and called for a defibrillator while they were waiting for ambulance paramedics to arrive.
