Arsonists attack charity shop

ARSONISTS badly damaged a charity shop front when they torched a pile of second hand clothes left in the doorway.

Firefighters took 30 minutes to control the fire at the front of the British Heart Foundation shop in Chapel Road, Worthing, shortly after 12.40am on Thursday.

Fire charred the wooden door frame and badly damaged the shop front as flames escaped into a side panel.

The lock was destroyed and a glass panel in the front door was broken.

Police are studying CCTV to reaveal the identity of those responsible.

No stock was damaged although thick black smoke spread through the shop.

Carol Nieser, 50, shop manager, said: "It's awful that people do this kind of thing to get their kicks. They probably thought they were having a lark but it got out of hand.

"If passers-by hadn't called the fire brigade it could have been a lot worse."
