Arun Yacht Club celebrates another successful summer

ARUN Yacht Club’s two cadet weeks this summer have been a major success, with 42 young sailors taking to the water for August’s activities.

They tested their sailing abilities under the watchful eyes of qualified instructors from the Royal Yachting Association, in sometimes lively conditions.

The strong winds would have been a challenge for much more experienced sailors, but the youngsters rose to the task.

And the sight of the brightly coloured sails of the dinghies bobbing about in the harbour was an added attraction for visitors and residents walking along Littlehampton’s riverside walkway.

Prizes for the most improved cadet went to Tom Browne and Nicole Payne, while prizes for outstanding cadet, in association with the Littlehampton Aircrew Association, went to Binnie Burgess and Jade Marsden.

Ken Whitmore, who represents the cadets on the club management committee, said: “The cadets have worked hard to make a success of all their events, and deserve the generous and grateful thanks of the management committee.”

Anyone who is interested in sailing and would like to find out more about the club should contact the secretary Sue Jenkins, telephone 01903 716016.
