Arundel is destination for walks festival next month

COUNTRY lovers are invited to step out and explore the South Downs during the Festival of Green Travel next month.

A programme of walks organised by the South Downs Society, from September 14-21 includes a 16-mile route from Amberley, across the downs to Arundel and back, on Thursday, September 19.

It is the longest of the walks during the week and sets off from Amberley railway station at 10.20am, heading for Burpham, where a 45-minute break will be taken for lunch at the George pub. From there, walkers will climb Barpham and Kithurst Hills, before returning to Amberley on the South Downs Way.

Jane Major, of the South Downs Society, said: “Without doubt, the best way to explore the downs is on foot. Just remember to put on suitable footwear and dress for the weather. This festival provides something for all levels of walkers, so do join us for any or all of the walks.”

Walkers are encouraged to use public transport where possible and arrive ten minutes before the walk. For other walks, see www.southdownssociety.org.uk
