Ashurst schoolgirl chooses winning name for mammoth skeleton
An Ashurst schoolgirl was presented with a prehistoric souvenir after helping to name a woolly mammoth skeleton set to go up for auction this week.
Poppy Askew, who attends Ashurst Church of England Primary School, chose the name ‘Monty’ for the mammoth in a competition held by Summers Place Auctions in Billingshurst.
Monty was chosen as the winning name, and Poppy, along with Alexander MacGregor from Eastbourne, was presented with a mammoth tooth on Saturday (November 22).
The skeleton will go under the hammer tomorrow (Wednesday November 25) and is expected to fetch between £150,000 and £250,000.
