Assault investigation continues

Police have revealed a man assaulted in Battle on Bank Holiday Monday had been attacked with a piece of wood.

The 39-year-old victim sustained a head injury and was found laying in a pool of blood following the attack in the Market Square car park just after 5pm on August 30.

The unnamed victim was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with a head wound, but discharged the next day.

A number of witnesses have been interviewed by police and two 13 and 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Both boys, who are local to Battle, were bailed until November 3.

Officers leading the investigation have said further arrests are likely.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams, of Sussex Police, said: "People have been very helpful and I would like to thank witnesses who have spoken to us.

"We cannot bring prosecutions without members of the public supporting us and each other."
