Assault victim fighting for life in hospital

A MAN suffered a fractured spine and a suspected collapsed lung in what police believe was an unprovoked attack on Saturday morning.

The victim is in a critical but stable condition in hospital following the serious assault that happened in New Road, Littlehampton, at 12.30am.

The 38-year-old man also suffered fractured ribs.

Police say the motive for the attack is unknown but are not ruling out robbery.

Detectives from Worthing CID are contacting witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage and foresic officers have examined the scene.

Worthing CID are leading the investigation and are asking for anyone with information to call 101 quoting serial 55/19.
