Author conjures up animal magic with latest kids' book

In his latest picture book for children Antony recounts some of his most vivid memories, illustrated with Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist Joan Miró’s famous artworks, During the talk at St Leonards Salon, The Printworks Bar, 14, Claremont, Hastings, Antony will recall Joan Miró as a quiet, kind and smartly dressed man, who painted wonderfully strange worlds filled with magic animals.

Antony is the son of photographer Lee Miller and surrealist artist Roland Penrose. Miro’s Magic Animals also contains Lee Miller’s photography, along with specially commissioned Miró-inspired artworks by children. A publicist spokesman said: “Vivid colour and playful typography come together to create an engaging story that will appeal to little and big art lovers alike.”

Antony’s previous publications include The Lives of Lee Miller, and bestselling children’s book, The Boy Who Bit Picasso. He is also a Director of the Lee Miller Archives and The Penrose Collection and has opened Farley Farm House - his parent’s former home near Chiddingly, which has been converted into a museum and archive featuring the lives and work of its former residents - to the public.
