As part of the celebrations last Thursday, Mrs Grindling agreed to spend time with the children and inspire them with their own life experiences.

A well-known author and speaker with lots of experience talking to children both in the UK and abroad, Mrs Grindling sat down and read extracts from her latest work.

Winner of numerous accolades including The Children’s Book Award, 2004 Smarties Prize Gold Award and West Sussex Book Award, Mrs Grindling has now written more than 130 books, including literature for pre-teens.

On the day, her books were made available for children to purchase and get signed.

Additionally, the school also had the West End Theatre Company swing by to perform a play based on some popular children’s fiction.

Pupils were then asked to come to school wearing their pyjamas and dressing gowns for Upper Beeding’s Slumber Party, bringing with them their favourite bedtime stories, teddies and blankets.

The Travelling Book Fair made an appearance for children to purchase new books.

Finally the ‘Caught Reading’ competition was held for pupils to make up their own stories using photographs.
