Last year Archers of Westfield took the runners up position.

This year the firm went one better by taking the winner’s trophy beating previous winners J Heath & Son of Eastbourne and
John Murray Butchers of Loxwood into the runner up spots.

Archers of Westfield was established in 1935 and Jeremy Archer, the present owner, is the third generation, working alongside three of his sons and staff team.

Mr Archer said: “It has always been our policy to sell the best quality meat we can, prepare it to the highest possible standards, and present it to the public with the best service possible.

“The aim of Archers is to supply meat which is produced locally without compromising on quality.

“The majority of the meat comes from within a 30-40 mile radius via local farmers and wholesalers.

“Buying locally enables Archers to keep strict control of the quality of the meat we sell.

“Importantly, it involves less stress for the animals in terms of transportation, and therefore higher standards of welfare.”

He added: “Archers are also proud to be helping support the local economy.”

Meanwhile there was also success for another local business.
