Back in time to launch new internet service

Children from a Bognor Regis school stepped back in time to launch a website.

Laburnum Grove Junior School pupils Samantha Rawlings, Seb Toy and Callum McDonald, pictured above, joined teacher Sue Scott at the town's remaining wooden bathing hut.

They dressed in costumes from the past to promote the British love of the seaside.

This is celebrated in a new West Sussex County Council internet service. Called '˜West Sussex seaside holidays in the past', it offers free downloadable and printable sources and documents.

Main topics covered include getting there, what to wear, in the water, on the water, piers and holiday camps.

Council deputy leader Cllr Mike Coleman said the website had been made easy to use for copying and adapting in their lessons.

'More than 100 sources were used to compile the website and we have created a special source gallery together with the around 50 additional images and other material,' he stated. 'People can search by keyword to locate particular sources.'

All researchers are welcome to downland, save and print any of the sources for private research. However, permission will be needed to use the items in certain circumstances.
