Back to school

PC Carol Batstone is going back to the classroom in her new role as Adur's safer schools partnership officer.

The former youth worker, who has lived in Shoreham all her life, will be working closely with students at Boundstone Community College, Lancing, and King's Manor Community College, Shoreham.

PC Batstone will be tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in schools, and looking at bullying and truancy.

She said: "I joined Sussex Police in order to make a difference to the lives of young people and this role is perfect for me.

"I want to make kids feel safer at school, as they walk to and from school and in the community. They should feel reassured that they can come and talk to me about issues and that I will listen to them."

She has already started taking children on visits to prisons, where they have been talking to offenders about their experiences.
