Bafta for playwright

Slindon's Ronald Harwood is basking in his first Bafta success '“ a success which might just be the precursor to Oscar glory in the US this week.

Mr Harwood won the Bafta for the best adapted screenplay for his work on The Diving Bell And The Butterfly.

On Friday he flies to Los Angeles to find out whether the film will land him a second Oscar to go alongside his triumph with The Pianist (2002), the Holocaust-themed film which was directed by Roman Polanski and starred Adrien Brody.
