Balcombe villagers are challenging a Guinness World record to raise funds for Help the Heroes.

The idea for the challenge came from Richard Cooper who is responsible for organising entertainment at Balcombe Club.

Richard said: “The summer of 2013 seems like the ideal time to attempt this world record to coincide with a season of Anglo-Aussie sporting challenges.

“Following the winning Lions tour and England taking back the Ashes, we are hoping the Aussie defeats continue with our attempted barbecue world record!”

The community will be filming and photographing the event at the club off Stockcroft Road in order to comply with the strict rules laid down by the World Record committee.Villagers will be hosting an open day for all who wish to come along and support the barbecue and enjoy food cooked by Michelin starred Chef Steve Crane.

Club chairman Bill Anthony, said: “Despite the considerable amount of co-ordination required to organise this event, the village is excited about making it a memorable day - and night!”
