Barker pays visit to Rother Samaritans

TOWN MP Gregory Barker visited the Rother Samaritans last Friday to meet the trained volunteers, many from Bexhill and rural Rother, who man the phones and run the local Samaritans HQ.

Rother Samaritans recently hosted the South East regional Samaritans Conference at St Richard's Catholic College. The conference included delegates from local charity groups and other specialists.

Mr Barker said later: "The dedication of the Samaritans' staff and volunteers is extraordinary; it has been very moving talking to them about their experiences providing this essential and deeply personal service to our community.

"It takes a special kind of person to listen patiently and provide support without judgement and I wish them all the best for the future."

The Samaritans are always looking for volunteers to join their local team. To volunteer or to speak to someone about any problem however small, call 01424 436666.
