Barnham children run up the miles to help an orphanage in Nepal

The children clocked up the staggering distance of 897 miles – slightly more than a road trip to Dundee – in aid of an orphanage in Nepal.

They raised about £1,500 with their endeavours to help the orphanage with which the Elm Grove school has strong links.

A school spokesman said: “The day was highly enjoyable and has raised a significant amount of money to support the children and charity work in the Nepalese orphanage.

“It was an event that brought the whole school community together and all staff were amazed at the motivation and positive attitude the children had throughout the day.

“It is undoubtedly an event that will be repeated in the school in the future.”

All the school’s children took part in the sponsored fun run. A course was laid out on the school field and playground.

Children from the reception year through to Year 6 took turns during the day to ran laps of the course.

Each pupil ran as many lengths as they could. Some from Years 5 and 6 completed a huge 28 laps each, or seven miles.
