Nine enthusiastic girls have already joined the resurrected 5th Battle Brownies, with others scheduled to join them in 2014.

Commissioner for Girlguiding Rye Division, Vikki Cook, said: “The 5th Battle Brownies were suspended in April as the numbers were too low for the unit to be viable.

“The leaders, one of whom had travelled from Bexhill every week for two years, are now supporting a large group nearer their homes and the girls moved on to Guides or to the other Battle Brownie pack.

“Girls are applying all the time to move on from Rainbows or to join for the first time and so it was agreed to reopen the 5th Battle Brownies.

“A new leader and two young leaders are working on their leadership qualification, supported by an experienced Brownie leader, but with five girls already registered for places when they reach their seventh birthday in 2014, this group is set to continue growing.”

The girls will make their Promise - a vow recited by girls and leaders who join the organisation - on November 5.

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. It aims to build girls’ confidence and raise their aspirations, as well as give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good, while having fun.

Commissioner for Battle District Jo says she is particularly pleased to have such thriving interest in the area, adding: “This means that in Battle we now have two Rainbow units, two Brownie units, a Guide unit and Senior Section in Battle alone.” Battle District includes the Brownie unit in Crowhurst and both Brownie and Guide units in Sedlescombe. There is also a Trefoil Guild for adults aged 16 plus.
