Battle crime round-up

HERE is this week's round-up of crimes committed in the Battle area:

* A NEWLY installed boiler was stolen from a house in Battle High Street over the weekend January 22/23.

The boiler was fitted to the wall of a house which is currently under renovation.

The copper pipes were cut to remove the boiler.

* A QUANTITY of BT cables were severed in Hastings Road, Battle.

The vandalism is believed to have happened between January 14 and 17 and reported to police on January 24.

Police believe those responsible were trying to cut cables to an alarm system.

It is being linked to a number of similar offences in Kent.

* TOOLS were stolen from a van parked in Fair Lane, Robertsbridge, on January 24.

The side doors of the van had been forced by the thieves.

* A WHEEL was stolen from a car parked in the Mount Street overflow car park in Battle between 6pm on January 24 and 7.40am the next day.

The car appeared to have been jacked up and the front nearside wheel was taken, before the vehicle was left to drop back onto the ground, causing extensive damage.

* VANDALS smashed the rear window of a car parked at Burwash Common between 8-9am on January 26.

* A LAWN mower, sat nav, cash and paperwork were stolen from a Honda Civic in Church Lane, Catsfield, between 5pm on January 25 and 7.40am the next day.

The paintwork and handle of the vehicle were badly scratched during the break in.

* A SET of numberplates were stolen from a car in Manchester Road, Ninfield, between 3pm on January 26 and 8am the next day.

* A LOG splitter was stolen from Catsfield at about 4.30pm on January 24.

A green transit van was seen in the area shortly before the theft, with two male occupants who were enquiring about scrap metal.

* ALCOHOL was stolen from Jempsons in Market Square, Battle, at 11.30am on Saturday (January 29).

The suspect later returned to the store and was arrested after being identified by staff.

He was released on police bail and enquiries are continuing.

* THREE youths damaged a window at Jempsons Cafe, High Street, Battle, at 12.30am on Sunday (January 30).

Police on patrol nearby carried out an extensive search but could not find those responsible.

CCTV footage is currently being examined.
