Battle crime round-up

Here is this week's round-up of crimes committed in the Battle area.

THE rear passenger window of a car was broken overnight on August 27/28 in Northbridge Street, Robertsbridge.

A WALLET was stolen from a tourist visiting Battle Abbey on August 28.

A CAR was broken into in Church Lane, Salehurst, overnight on August 28/29.

The back windscreen was smashed and a rucksack was taken containing numerous items and accessories from a wedding the victim had attended the day before.

The items were found in a nearby bush a short time later.

A CAR parked in Mount Street, Battle, was scratched all down the driver's side with a sharp object overnight on August 28/29.

ARSONISTS set alight to a van belonging to a local chimney sweep business in Brickyard Lane, Brightling, on August 29.

The van was well alight when firefighters arrived and the vehicle and contents were completely destroyed.

A LARGE number of wraps of suspected Class A drugs, have been discovered by Rother police.

An Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera picked up a suspicious vehicle on the A21 at Hurst Green at 12.25am on August 30.

Ten minutes later, police started to follow the vehicle through Whatlington and Sedlescombe before stopping the car in Sedlescombe Road North, Hastings.

Police from Rother and Hastings searched the four occupants of the vehicle and found a "large quantity" of suspected Class A drugs and cash.

The four were arrested, interviewed and bailed.

A CUSTOMER hurled abuse at a member of staff in a petrol station after her card was declined - and stole sunglasses and a bar of chocolate during the commotion.

The woman was trying to pay for fuel at the station in Heathfield Road, Burwash Weald, on August 31, but left following a row with staff after her card was declined.

She later returned with cash to pay for the petrol.

Staff then discovered the items were missing and went after her, but the woman had already driven away.

Police are viewing CCTV footage of the incident.

TWO bronze greyhound statues were stolen from a property in Dallington between August 11-31.

The statues had been sitting on the lounge window sill.

The property is often left open and police believe the items were taken by an opportunistic thief.

The theft is not being linked to any others.

A LARGE amount of tools and other items were stolen after 17 allotments were broken into on the A21 at Hurst Green overnight on September 1/2.

Thieves forced their way into 15 outbuildings, whilst another two were left insecure.

The value of the stolen items is not yet known.

Kent Police later stopped a man for using stolen plates on his vehicle and found a large amount of tools inside.

Enquiries are continuing between Rother and Kent Police.

TWO high seats, worth 120 each, were stolen from Herrings Farm in Dallington on September 3.

High seats are metal seats used for sitting in trees and were stored in trees ready for shooting when they were taken.
