Battle man arrested after fight at footie match

A MAN from Battle was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after a fight broke out during a football match in Hastings, just metres away from the town’s police station.

The incident happened just before 7.40pm last Wednesday (August 22) at the Horntye football ground in Bohemia Road.

During the football match a 37-year-old man from the Hastings area was attacked from behind.

The victim was hit on the head, causing him to fall to the floor.

His attacker then kicked him, causing cuts and bruising.

During the assault, a knife was produced and waved about by one of three men, who police are treating as suspects.

The victim was taken to the Conquest Hospital for treatment.

A 49-year-old man from Battle was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

The man has since been bailed until September 21, pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information which may assist with their investigation, to call them on 101, quoting serial 1618 of 22/8, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
