Battle Police’s helping hand to Robertsbridge group

Battle Police has donated more than £200 to Helping Hands, a thriving community friends’ group which operates in Salehurst and Robertsbridge.

Anne Wells and Sue Prochak both chair the Helping Hands committee and were on hand to receive the £241 donation.

Sue said: “We have now been going for three years and all of us are most grateful for the generous cheque. This will assist us with our annual insurance and phone costs.

“We are extremely proud of our volunteers, we have more than 50. Last year they gave their time and expertise to do nearly 400 tasks ranging from one-off gardening to help with reading legal documents.

“Our greatest need is for transport and this year we have already given 200 lifts.

“These trips can be within the village, to doctors, dentists, or further afield to the Conquest Hospital.

“We think there is a great need in all our villages for organisations like ours.”

The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

Police community support officer, Rachael Scott said: “We are really pleased to be able to support this vital cause. We hope this money will help to make a difference to those vulnerable residents who need ‘an extra helping hand’ to do those day to day things that many of us take for granted.

“Thankfully there are kind people willing to offer their help to such a charity as this, they do a great job and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
