The parade formed up at Market Square at 10am before marching to St Mary’s Church where colours were presented before a Service of Remembrance.

The service was followed by wreath laying at the war memorial in the churchyard Alan Hayward, from Battle Royal British Legion, said: “We are a little thin on the ground at the moment and we did not have a band this year, but we did have a good turn-out on the day.”

The Royal British Legion were joined by pupils from Battle Abbey School and members of the Chamber Choir and there was a good turn-out from residents.

Battle fire fighters also turned out for the ceremony.

Last year, the Battle branch produced a Booklet of Remembrance as a keepsake for local people, containing the names of the 221 local fallen from 1914 - 2014.

Members and supporters of the Royal British legion have been out and about in the town collecting for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The appeal, which helps serving and ex-servicemen, women and their dependants who are in need, financially, or in other ways, raised £36.6m last year nationally.

Alan Hayward said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported us this year.”
