Beckley’s Phone Boxes: Two of Beckley’s iconic telephone boxes have not been used in the past year; one near Beckley School and the other opposite the Rose & Crown. BT have stopped maintaining them and are likely to disconnect the phones and, in time, remove the boxes. However, it is possible for the Parish Council to adopt them if we do not wish the boxes to go. If adopted, the payphones inside will be removed and maintenance of the boxes will become the responsibility of the Parish Council. Other local councils have adopted their boxes and used them for other purposes, such as a base for a defibrillator or even a village library! We would like to know your views: would you like to see one or both of these phone boxes stay? If so, do you have any suggestions on how they could be used? Please let us know by email to [email protected], or speak to any of the Parish Councillors.
