Beckley

Deborah Ongley, Beckley Main Street

Next Sunday is the Beckley 10k Race 3rd November 2013 Beckley Village Centre 11.00 am. The 9th running of this popular village race. A challenging run along the lanes around this pretty East Sussex village. Hilly in parts, the home stretch, though, is straight and largely downhill-ish, so a fast finish is guaranteed. Runners of all standards welcome. All race profits to Beckley Village Centre. Medals plus free beer, homemade cakes and fruit to all finishers. Includes Children’s Race at just £2 entry, why not get a sponsor form and raise money for their school, club or charity. You can download an entry form from this link to the website http://www.nice-work.org.uk/events.php?id=11 01797 230009 [email protected]. They are also in need of more volunteers to help with the marshalling, drink stations etc. Please call Steve on 01797 260232.

Whilst this may not affect you directly now -it will do. The deadline is 31st October. ESCC are consulting (again) on the free school bus service. They plan to save money by only providing free transport to your nearest secondary school starting in 2014 In Beckley’s case this is Rye .This means that those of you who would rather send your child to Robertsbridge will have to pay for the bus fares yourself (poss in region of £600 a year). This removes the element of choice for many and so it is vital that you get online and enter this link https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/childrens-services/transport-provision-for-joint-community-areas

Click on “online survey” and fill it in with your views. Some feel that this is already a foregone conclusion but parent power has worked before so there is always hope or even maybe get them to provide an alternative such as only paying difference or freedom passes approx. £100 as they do in Kent. Please spare two minutes to fill it in and also to pass this on to anyone you know that is willing to help get our views across. Mrs Channon has spent a lot of time putting a petition together that anyone can sign at Beckley school, plus varies other places in the village so sign it now before next Thursday’s dead line.

People are still parking their cars on the pavements in Beckley main street, please be aware that the local police are aware of this problem. Just take a minute to check if you have left enough room for a mother and push chair to get through! They shouldn’t have to go on the main road to pass your car.

Beckley preschools are holding a jumble sale on 17th November at Beckley village centre from 10am till 12. So why not have a clear out they are after any jumble please drop it off at the village hall. You can drop off anytime during the week.
