Beware these bogus gardeners

BOGUS callers have been on the prowl in Bexhill.

The thieves targeted homes in Sidley, Pebsham and Holliers Hill by pretending to be offering gardening services.

Once inside, they stole cash and possessions, with one elderly woman having her week's pension taken.

DC Tony Lockey, of Bexhill and Rother CID, said: "They are targeting elderly vulnerable victims and have been getting into people's houses under false pretences.

"We are doing everything we can along with members of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme and the PCSOs have been frequently visiting the more vulnerable areas."

He advised residents to be alert and said if you are uncomfortable about someone who is in your house, call the police immediately.

He also said residents should ask callers for identification before allowing them inside - if in doubt, ask for a phone number for the company to verify their identity.

Anyone who has been the victim of a bogus caller in recent weeks is asked to contact DC Lockey on 01424 456159.
