Bexhill Cricket Club given all clear to put up security gates

The town's cricket club has been given the go-ahead to install gates on its grounds to help combat constant vandalism.

Rother district councillors gave their backing to the scheme at Monday's cabinet meeting.

Bexhill Cricket Club, which shares the Polegrove recreation ground with Bexhill United Football Club, intends to put gates at the back of its pavilion to fence the area off from the public.

In a letter to the council the club's chairman Martin Phillimore said: "We have had many windows smashed and doors kicked in. The gates would provide a secure area in which to store our expensive sight screens and covers which are regularly abused.

"Youths have also been climbing on our out houses and pavilion.

"We have a considerable problem with dog mess being left out of sight of the general public behind our building. The majority of dog owners are considerate but unfortunately there is a minority who feel it is acceptable for their dogs to foul on our doorstep area."

The club said it had suffered from vandalism over several years and enclosing the back area with gates would deter further attacks.
