Matte Hart, head coach of 1066 Gymnastics, based in Brett Drive, Bexhill, was offered a full-time position with the company earlier this year and decdied to accept it.

He said: “I shall be stepping down at the end of April as head coach of the club I started eight years ago after being offered a full-time contract as a head coach for Cirque du Soleil, which is a dream come true.

“I was in contact with Cirque du Soleil last June and they offered me a post within a month but I had to turn it down with a heavy heart as I run 1066 Gymnastics with my sister, who was about to give birth and go on maternity leave. It was a fantastic project they offered me.

“I kept the line of communication open and headed back to Montreal in late September. They offered me a five-week project, which I worked with Cirque du Soleil on in November and December. It was great, as I got to see all around the headquarters, meet staff and learned how they put on a show.”

Matte, 33, of Bramlea Close, returned to 1066 Country with the full-time job offer, mulled it over Christmas, and finally decided to take it.

He will be in Montreal for just under a year from May before touring around Canada and the USA for two years.

He said: “Every week we will be visiting a different city. I am looking forward to travelling the world and working with artists and former athletes from many different countries.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity and offers a new challenge.”

Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company and the largest theatrical producer in the world. Based in Montreal and located in the inner-city area of Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix.

Cirque du Soleil expanded rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s.

The shows employ approximately 4,000 people from more than 40 countries.
