Bexhill rail success

The decision to continue the hourly Victoria to Hastings trains, via Bexhill, has been warmly welcomed by East Sussex County Council.

The Department for Transport had originally planned to terminate most Victoria to Hastings trains at Eastbourne. But in a welcome turnaround Derek Twigg MP has written to East Sussex County Council to say the service will continue.

Councillor Peter Jones, Leader of East Sussex County Council, said "We objected very strongly to the plans by the Department for Transport to stop this service. We highlighted the significant impact it would have for residents and businesses, and on the regeneration of the area. I am pleased that the Government has listened to local objections and decided to keep this vital service going."

The letter from Derek Twigg MP states 'It is entirely right that we should review decisions in the light of changed circumstances, and having established that the performance improvement has been sustained over several months now, we do not propose to '¦ truncate the Hastings trains at Eastbourne'.
