Terry Lewis is to have 14 inches of hair cut off to donate to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss through cancer treatment.

Kind-hearted Terry also aims to raise at least £350 to enable the charity manufacture a ‘specialist wig’, which includes Afro wigs.

Terry, who lives in St Johns Road, said: “I’m going to have nearly all my hair chopped off.

“I have grown it for three years now.

“I went away in the last couple of weeks and could really not do anything with it.

“And I thought about helping other people while changing my look for my 40th birthday at the end of May.”

Terry will be having the chop on May 5, with Danielle Chapman wielding the scissors at Chique International in Devonshire Road. But Terry admits she had a bit of a wobble at the thought of parting with her crowning glory.

She said: “Last week I was really, really keen and I started my fundraising.

“Then I was looking at what hair styles I may have, couldn’t decide and got cold feet.”

But once the cash donations started rolling in,
Terry’s confidence quickly returned.

Terry’s dramatic haircut will also mark the end of a difficult period in her life, which included a number of stays in hospital.

She said: “I was in and out of hospital two of those years.

“I did not have my hair cut because it was easier to tie it up and I did not have to worry about it.”

Terry said of her impending cut: “It’s like shedding of the old me and my history.”

Terry’s devoted husband Simon, who has been by her side during the dark days, is fully supportive of his wife.

Terry said: “He’s really proud of me. It’s been quite emotional for him too.”
