BIG DEBATE: Should Horsham return to the top 50 UK ‘crap’ towns list?

This week, neighbouring town Crawley has been revealed as one of the nominations to appear in 50 Crap Towns Returns – a follow-on from Crap Towns: The 50 worst places to live in the UK and Crap Towns II: The Nation Decides.

In 2003 The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK ranked Horsham 27th and it was described as ‘a no fun zone run by new Conservative for old Conservatives’.

The final list for the latest book due to come out in September is still being drawn up, but co-writer Sam Jordison told the County Times Horsham could still join Crawley in the rankings.

He said: “I can’t reveal the final list yet, and don’t want to give you wrong info, since it isn’t finalised. But I can say that like all other towns, it’s in the running.

“A town is chosen for the book in a pretty unscientific - but I think still valid way.

“We get nominations, suggestions, votes and indications primarily via our website www.craptownsreturns.com, but also on Twitter, Facebook, and everything else, right down to people urging me to include places in the hairdressers, in the pub and anywhere the book is mentioned..

“Inclusion is mainly decided by vote - but of course because every town is different in size, so we have to weight them a bit according to population.

“There’s also the fact that the best entries attract the most attention, both from us and online, so in a way, appearing in a book is a compliment.”

But has the town changed in the past decade? Should it deserve a place in the Top 50 again? We want your views.
