Bikers present cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support

THEY are a group of leather clad bikers whom many might say appear to be a motley crue, but these local easy riders, better known as The Norsemen Motorcycle Club, Sussex, have hearts of gold, and in the past few years have raised thousands of pounds for charity.

The Norsemen's latest achievement was to raise 2,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support (MCS), which last week they proudly handed over to MCS representative Doreen Upwood.

Gratefully accepting the cheque Doreen gave thanks to the dedicated group for their hard work and commitment.

Doreen said: "If it wasn't for people like the Norsemen, Macmillan Cancer Support wouldn't be able to help as many people as they do with this dreadful disease."

Norsemen Vice President Alan Foster explained that the the club raised the money by supporting three very different events throughout the past year.

Alan said: "Three overweight bikers staggered around the Hastings Half Marathon, wishing they could have used their bikes! At the May Run - motorbike run- the Norsemen had a stall selling tee-shirts and refreshments, and the Poker Run, where over five hundred bikes toured around and eighty mile route in East Sussex."

The Poker Run is the Norsemen's main event of the year and Alan said they were "delighted" to welcome so many bikers. A wide range of bikes completed the course including sports bikes, cruisers, trike's and scooters.

Prize giving was held at the end of the run at the Happy Hunting Ground Pet Cemetery in Hooe and several hundred people enjoyed the event which included live bands, and a hog roast.
