Birdman gets full attention

Three speakers stepped in at the last minute to ensure Bognor Regis Local History Society members had an informative meeting in February.

Barry Jones and his wife Jenny and Sylvia Olliver filled the void left by the planned speaker's absence because of a misunderstanding.

The 65 society members were instead treated to spontaneous talks on the history of two of the town's biggest crowd-pulling events.

Mr and Mrs Jones spoke about the Birdman contest and their hopes the occasion will return to Bognor from its enforced exile in Worthing.

Mrs Olliver turned her attention to the clowns' convention and spoke of her amusing experiences at the hands of the clowns during past events.

The society's members also mentioned their concern about the saga of the Picturedrome cinema. Their next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on March 16 at the Royal Norfolk Hotel about the English Seaside Resort by Sylvia Endacott.
