Blessing of the Sea

THE annual Blessing of the Sea took place this week at Hastings Lifeboat Station. Carried out by Rev Barbara Hobbs of All Saints Church, the service blesses the sea for all seafarers in Hastings and was attended by representatives from all the local churches.

The rear of the main Hastings lifeboat was used as a pulpit and the lifeboat crews were also in attendance, alongside a host of fisherman, the mayor and assorted councillors.

Members of the lifeboat crew read passages from the bible and the congregation enjoyed singing a selection of hymns chosen for their particular relevance to the sea.

Rosemary Foster, president of the lifeboat society, said: "It was a lovely service and very well attended."
